New Continental Smart Tyres White Paper explores digital solutions for sustainable logistics

Sponsored content

Continental is highlighting the role of digitalisation and automation in helping fleets to remain efficient, safe and sustainable during the current difficult economic climate.

Its all-new Smart Tyres White Paper explores the topic of digital solutions from various industry perspectives and provides an overview of trends and developments in the logistics sector.

CAPTURING A RANGE OF VIEWS

Readers will be able to hear from product users, experts and academics, all of which provide their views on the need for cost-effectiveness, predictive maintenance, operational safety and sustainability, and new forms of mobility. Continental also highlights the potential of digital solutions and the benefits of networked fleets and autonomous driving.

INSIGHTS FROM USING DIGITAL SOLUTIONS

The Smart Tyres White Paper provides readers with the learnings and experience of using digital solutions. Sensor experts Niklas Vauth and Sven Wilhelmsen offer insight into their work and explain where sensor technology is heading. The VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry) addresses how vehicles are becoming communication hubs, while the WĂĽrzburg-based Institute for Applied Logistics identifies concrete solutions for sustainable logistics. Car-sharing provider, SHARE NOW Denmark, also outlines the potential of smart tyres for new forms of mobility through the interplay of telematics data and algorithms.

UK HAULAGE FIRM SHARES ITS EXPERIENCE

One case study featured within the White Paper looks at the practical, real-world experience of UK-based haulage firm, G. Webb. The long-standing Continental customer has used the ContiPressureCheck tyre pressure monitoring system and the ContiConnect virtual tyre management platform for many years.

G. Webb’s Fleet Engineering Director, Paul Broker said: “We’ve been a fan of the ContiConnect platform from the outset and use it as part of the Conti360° service package. ContiConnect has enabled us to keep tabs on the current tyre status of our trucks. It helps us to minimise fleet costs by giving us the information we need to stop a truck with a tyre defect quickly and reliably before it escalates into a blowout or a breakdown.

“ContiConnect has helped us to reduce the number of punctures and significantly improve work planning in the workshops. With ContiConnect 2.0 and the multi-functional app offering fleet managers even greater operational flexibility, we are taking the next step towards predictive maintenance.”

NEW SYSTEM CAN INTEGRATE FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS

The company served as a trial partner for ContiConnect 2.0, which was unveiled at the beginning of 2022. The system builds upon existing functions and puts the framework in place for future platform developments to be integrated. Customer data is continuously analysed within the cloud, with ‘big data’ and artificial intelligence helping to deliver precise forecasting and continue the drive towards predictive, rather than reactive maintenance. Users benefit from a new, multifunctional app that provides even greater operational flexibility for fleet engineers.
