HGV DRIVER SHORTAGE
Raising awareness of the lack of HGV drivers in the industry and the solutions available to government to remedy this issue has been a key focus for Logistics UK’s press team over the past month. In addition to securing an interview with Alex Veitch, Logistics UK’s General Manager – Public Policy, on the evening news bulletin of Channel 5 News, the team secured national coverage about the problem in The Guardian, The Times and The Daily Telegraph. The team also achieved global coverage on the issue, reaching as far as Australia, India, UAE and New Zealand.
ITT HUB AND FUTURE LOGISTICS CONFERENCE 2021
The ITT Hub and the Future Logistics Conference event has been a priority this month, and with only one week to go until the show starts, the Logistics UK press team has already secured extensive promotional coverage of the event across key transport and logistics titles, including Green Fleet, Transport & Logistics, Fleet Transport, Forwarder Magazine, HGV UK and Transport Operator. This included coverage to promote the event’s much-anticipated Ride & Drive opportunities, the Future Logistics Conference, government hub, and vast exhibition area; the team has also confirmed the attendance of more than 30 journalists.
KENT LORRY PARKING BAN
Logistics UK took a stand against Kent County Council's ban on lorry parking in lay-bys across several areas of Kent this month, a position amplified by the Logistics UK press team which negotiated interviews and placed comments from policy team members across key local media, including BBC Radio Kent, BBC South East Breakfast, BBC South East Today, and Kent Online.
SHIPPING DISRUPTION
With disruption to shipping making the global headlines, Logistics UK placed interviews with Alex Veitch on BBC Radio 4 Today, BBC 5 Wake up to Money and Talk Radio and secured coverage in a wide range of national and global titles including BBC News Online.
THE MONTH AHEAD
Logistics UK’s press team will be promoting the business group’s upcoming events, including ITT Hub and the Future Logistics Conference, the Van Awards, and the Van Driver of the Year competition which takes place on 10 July 2021. The team will continue to campaign for action on skills and recruitment to the sector as a key focus over the coming month, as well as an ongoing focus on Brexit and the controls on imports due to be introduced at the end of the year.
Have you got a story? If you are keen to speak to the media about a pressing issue – from Brexit readiness to skills shortages, urban restrictions to future logistics – or to shout about some of the great work your organisation is doing, we would love to hear from you. We are also keen to hear from those with personal achievements to shout about – maybe moving a very unusual load, staff members who have received special awards or with unusual hobbies or expertise. And as always, the media is keen to talk to women working across the industry – we are particularly on the lookout for female drivers who are happy to talk to the press. Please contact Eleanor, Freya or Rona in the media team at press.office@logistics.org.uk – we look forward to hearing from you!
