Campaign highlight - zero emission van transition


Whilst the logistics industry is committed to decarbonising, a key barrier for many remains the challenges around regulatory flexibility, with 4.25 tonne e-vans falling under HGV rules.

Logistics UK has long been calling for reform to regulations and so has welcomed the announcements that the DfT has opened two consultations on the transition to zero emission electric vehicles, on 1) regulatory flexibility for 4.25 tonne electric vans and 2) potential requirements for new non-zero emission vans to be sold from 2030 to 2035, with the proposal for vans being either a vehicle level COâ‚‚ cap or a more ambitious non-ZEV fleet average COâ‚‚ requirement (rather than a specific technology being mandated).

Logistics UK will respond to both consultations. On the first, the business group will outline how it offers the opportunity to deliver regulatory alignment between 4.25 tonne electric vans and 3.5 tonne diesel vans, to support the uptake of electric vehicles. This consultation follows calls from Logistics UK and others in the Zero Emission Van Plan coalition for such regulatory alignment and other measures to support the transition. On the second, the business group is seeking feedback from members to best represent member views.

The business group has long been calling for regulatory changes to help with the transition to zero emission electric vehicles and will keep members informed on future developments and consultation outcomes.
