Driver app experiences surge in registered user numbers

While Logistics UK and the government are campaigning tirelessly to encourage HGV drivers back behind the wheel, the creators of a recruitment driver platform and app specifically for hauliers and Class 1 and Class 2 HGV licence holders has already seen a surge in registrations.

ON TARGET TO ACHIEVE 20,000 REGISTERED USERS

Designed to streamline the whole communication system between hauliers and HGV licence holders, the Avail driver app is already on target to achieve 20,000 registered users by the end of the year. This suggests two things. First, the app is a useful and helpful tool, which enables drivers and hauliers to create effective and cost-efficient working relationships. Second, the volume of signups reveals there are many Class 1 and Class 2 HGV licence holders out there who are both able to work and who are actively looking for work.

LETTER HIGHLIGHTS IMPROVED CONDITIONS IN LOGISTICS

The popularity of the app has been greatly enhanced as a direct result of the letter sent out last week from the Department for Transport to nearly one million currently licensed HGV drivers, many of whom had found alternative work as a result of the impact both Brexit and the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the road transport business. The letter is openly asking those who stopped driving HGVs to reconsider and to make the most of an opportunity where working conditions and levels or payment have now been greatly improved.

The letter was co-signed by David Wells, Chief Executive, Logistics UK. This has led to a surge in the popularity of the driver platform as Logistics UK has listed Avail as one of the five officially recognised “HGV Driver Job Opportunities” that the business group is promoting.

SIMPLE AND INTUITIVE TO USE

The app is well suited for the current environment as it is simple to use, both from a haulier’s and a driver’s perspective, and it is cost effective as it avoids hefty agency fees. Employers simply need to post the job using the app, and it will be sent to all drivers who would be appropriate for the task. Drivers out on the road can still receive notifications of new work as it comes up, and apply for them with just a few taps of the screen on their smartphone.

ATTRACTING THE BEST TALENT

In an increasingly ratings-oriented world where we can read reviews about every place we eat or every product we buy, Avail has been quick to maximise the potential advantages of this, by enabling drivers to rate hauliers and hauliers to rate drivers. The app is designed so that the best hauliers will attract the best drivers, and the best drivers will be attractive to those hauliers. Therefore, each time a driver and haulier deliver on any contract, the more their reputations will grow.

Additionally, without agency fees, hauliers can offer competitive rates to attract maximum response via the app, and through spreading the word, drivers will be able to attract more and more hauliers to register with Avail. This virtuous circle should help benefit the app’s users and the wider logistics sector.

Steven Rogers, Head of Marketing for Avail, commented: “We knew that, in time, the platform would be used throughout the transport industry, but that it would take time. However, with today’s supply chain problems urgently needing all the solutions possible, our app looks as though it will soon become indispensable. We were thrilled to have Logistics UK give us their seal of approval and recommend us to both drivers and hauliers who are looking to successfully navigate through this difficult situation and we look forward to having such a positive influence on getting the supply chain working more efficiently again”.
