Generation Logistics Case Study
Jack Carroll, Project Manager – CEVA
My name is Jack Carroll and I am a Project Manager. I am based out of the head office in Ashby and I joined CEVA after a year working in the security team on a business placement from university.
As part of my university degree, I had a module called Global Supply Chain Management which ultimately sparked my interest. It stood out to me as a fast-paced and exciting industry to work in. I also have family members that have worked in logistics, which prompted me to find a role for myself.
Before joining the sector, I had the typical perception of the logistics industry: just trucks and warehouses. It is not necessarily the first choice of young people looking to build a career; however, I knew there were clear career progression opportunities following my university studies.
It is now clear to me that there is so much more to logistics than the typical perception – there are so many different career pathways available within the sector in departments such as finance, HR, marketing etc. It plays a huge role in keeping the country moving, which was clearly demonstrated during the pandemic.
I would recommend a career in logistics to anyone who wants to work in a diverse, fast-paced environment that offers great opportunities. You can progress in a wide variety of business areas, not just operations.
Personally, I enjoy the challenge of understanding our different operations as they all vary in some capacity. You get to travel a lot, which allows you to meet a wide variety of people so you can build your network, but you also get the option to work remotely.
CEVA also provides a good base for young people to gain experience; I know this first hand, having completed a business placement here and then returning in a different role. In short, the opportunity for growth and the earnings potential, hard work will pay off! You also get great job satisfaction from solving new challenges that the industry throws at you.
