Top pain points of logistics companies and how to solve them with tech

Sponsored content

Profitability directly depends on how the process of transporting and storing materials is organised.

It is essential to coordinate with all the variables to allow for timely shipment and the effective use of goods. Thankfully, different delivery, logistics, and tracking apps are here to help.

1. KEEPING CARGO SAFE AND WELL

Shipping businesses often suffer from poor cargo management, which often leads to financial damages. Watching the cargo is preferable all the way along its journey if potential losses are to be avoided.

Fortunately, there are numerous IT solutions designed to facilitate the delivery process. Their functionality ranges from checking the condition of perishable products to automating the entire logistics process, including the following:

  • measuring temperature, humidity, light, etc;
  • showing geolocation;
  • estimating time of delivery;
  • assessing risks of damaging the products; and
  • storing individual journey information into a database for further analysis.

2. CONTROLLING DRIVERS & THE PROCESS

The variety of data available for tracking includes vehicles’ technical conditions, drivers’ working hours, and even their health. The latter information is vital for discovering many potential problems as drivers often tend to underperform or exceed recommended working hours.

Knowing that there is monitoring in place would motivate drivers to comply with rules. Moreover, tracking drivers can allow you to enhance their routes, and, therefore, optimise the number of staff (relevant during the pandemic, protests, and workforce shortages).

3. ORGANISING THE WAREHOUSE

Storage mismanagement often brings huge losses to a company. When running a large warehouse, businesses cannot neglect the possibility of losing goods due to inaccurate storage. Moreover, they need to keep an eye on several processes, including receiving, storage, picking, and shipping. Warehouse optimisation may seem challenging, but it is essential for businesses to survive.

There are various software solutions and apps to streamline warehouse logistics generally called a warehouse management system. It allows companies to gain higher visibility into their inventory levels and simplify their operations at every stage of the supply chain.

Warehouse management system platforms allow businesses to maximise the utilisation of their storage space by coordinating all processes at the same time, from receiving to shipping. In other words, the system is created to fulfill the needs of the entire supply chain, providing deep analytical input and giving grounds for meaningful managerial decisions.

TO SUM UP

Overall, the variety of logistics apps may greatly simplify the whole chain of operations for a company that is willing to invest sufficient resources. On the other hand, it swiftly becomes common practice. Businesses cannot really consider having a delivery app as a luxury advantage, but rather a must-have that allows them to keep up with competitors. In any case, IT solutions already play an enormous role in the global supply chain, and this role will inevitably grow in importance.
