Generation Logistics case study: Kaylem, Apprentice Refrigeration Engineer, Marshall Fleet Solutions

Kaylem researched the logistics sector thoroughly before joining Marshall Fleet Solutions to try and understand whether it was viable financially and suited his skillset.

“I’ve been here for two years and I have my own van now,” he says, confirming he made the right decision. “I’m out repairing units on my own, servicing units and just doing what a regular engineer does now basically.”

“It was slow at first, walking around watching people and shadowing people. But once I got that level of confidence, I was able to go out on my own doing the job.”

Kaylem’s always been adept at working with his hands. He enjoyed design technology at school and went on to do mechanical engineering at college. His ambition is to complete his apprenticeship, keep on learning and eventually become a lead engineer at the firm.

“I never really knew anything about the logistics sector before I joined, but if someone asked me now I’d tell them to get into it to be fair,” he says. “You’re going to have a job for life in logistics. It’s one of those things that’s never going to go away.”
