Campaign highlight - Delays to the EU Entry and Exit System announced

On 10 October, the EU Home Commissioner (EC) confirmed that the EU Entry and Exit System, which involves biometric checks at borders, will be delayed, having previously been due to go live on 10 November.

Logistics UK has been calling on the UK government to accelerate diplomatic engagement with the French Authorities and EC to secure a delay and develop mitigations, including a pre-registration app, to minimise disruption to GB EU trade via the Short Straits.

As part of this work, the business group gave evidence to the European Scrutiny Committee in Westminster and worked with transport economists MDS Transmodal to publish unique analysis which quantified the cost to freight and the GB economy from knock on delays at peak passenger periods. Logistics UK also raised this issue in the media on multiple occasions.

While a new timetable for implementation has not been shared at this stage, there has been confirmation that there will be a phased approach. Logistics UK will continue to keep members informed on this subject and provide updates when further details are known.
