Key policy wins: January 2021

Key Logistics UK policy wins for the month

SPS groupage GB to NI

Logistics UK is proactively engaged with DAERA and Defra on solution-led outcomes for problems associated with collecting groupage of SPS products in GB for delivery to NI. Based on this engagement, the Government confirmed on 13 January that practical mitigations on GB to NI food groupage in the coming days. In the meantime, Logistics UK and some members are engaging with DAERA on a specific user group for the implementation of the new mitigations.

Free Trade Agreement

During the EU Exit transition period, Logistics UK consistently pressed government officials and departments about the need for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and its requirements for logistics. The FTA agreed between the UK and EU in December 2020 allows UK international hauliers to complete unlimited journeys between the UK and the EU, through the EU and up to two additional journeys within the EU without the need for ECMT permits, which covers an overwhelming majority of general haulage operations.
