Campaign highlight - Logistics UK continues to call for logistics recognition in the forthcoming Industrial Strategy

Logistics UK has continued to press for logistics to be recognised in the forthcoming Industrial Strategy, calling for the strategy to acknowledge logistics’ role in underpinning the economy and create the policy environment for the sector to thrive and drive growth throughout the economy.

The business group submitted its final response to the UK government's Industrial Strategy consultation in November last year, where it outlined how logistics is critical to underpin at least five of the highest potential growth-driving sectors recognised in the Industrial Strategy Green Paper, namely advance manufacturing, clean energy industries, life sciences, defence and creative industries.

Making the case that transport and logistics must be embedded into The Industrial Strategy’s objectives, Logistics UK has explained how the sector will be integral to supporting the expansion of the highest potential growth-driving sectors. The sector’s investment in its efficiency, automation and skills base cascades through the economy.

Most recently, Logistics UK organised a letter, signed by 30 senior leaders of major UK businesses wrote to Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, urging him to acknowledge the critical role that effective supply chains play in all parts of the economy.

The letter calls upon the Business Secretary to recognise logistics as foundational in the final Industrial Strategy, and to give the logistics sector a voice in the development of future economic plans by being represented on the Industrial Strategy Council.

Logistics UK will continue to outline the intrinsic link between the sector and economic growth, sharing that by establishing the right partnerships, regulations and investment for logistics, the government can deliver productivity gains that will boost the UK economy by up to £8 billion per year by 2030.
