Generations logistics case study: Alex Jackson, Internal Recruitment Consultant, Stobart
Alex had very little idea what she wanted to pursue after completing her GCSEs, so she opted for A levels in health and social care and double business to concentrate on the things she found interesting while keeping her options open.
Developing a fondness for the latter, she went on to focus on business studies at university before securing her first job at United Utilities where her confidence grew and her skills flourished.
She’s now very proud to be an Internal Recruitment Consultant at Stobart, where she gets to flex everything she’s learned on a daily basis.
“I focus on all the office-based roles in the UK, up and down the country,” she told Logistics Magazine, “ranging from apprenticeships all the way up to senior management. I also create induction plans, organise training, participate in recruitment fairs and plan my own Stobart recruitment days as well.”
Alex describes the industry as “fast-paced”, with her working day providing lots of tasks and challenges that keep her busy and stimulated.
“When I tell people about my job in logistics, they don’t tend to understand logistics as a sector,” she explains. “But once I break it down, people are amazed what goes into logistics. It’s certainly given me an amazing platform to go on to bigger and better things in the future.”
She’s also proud to see her company employing more women to work in what is largely a male-dominated industry. “It’s good to be around passionate women wanting to break the stigma in logistics”, she smiles.
