Select Committee inquiry into National Policy Statement for ports

The Transport Committee launched a call for evidence (Call for Evidence - Committees - UK Parliament ) into the government’s proposal for a revised National Policy Statement for Ports (NPSP) on 27 June, which is open until 1 August.

The NPSP provides guidance to applicants in preparing planning applications for nationally significant infrastructure projects relating to ports. This follows the government holding a consultation on revisions to the current NPSP, which closed on 29 July.

Logistics UK's response to the government consultation can be accessed here. In our submission, we highlighted that 95% of goods enter the UK by sea; that ports are unable to obtain timely and cost-effective grid upgrades necessary for the maritime sector to decarbonise; and that ports are nodes in the transport network and do not operate in a transport silo. Decarbonisation of the sector must take a multi modal approach and consider other users of ports.
