Snapshot of the 2024 local council and mayoral elections
There's an election happening this year in case you hadn't heard! Possibly September, probably November according to experts.
Either way, Logistics UK will be keeping a close eye on developments and what the implications might be for the logistics industry.
In the meantime, we got a snapshot of the mood of the country on 2 May when the local council and mayoral elections took place.
This was the largest round of local elections since 2019, with more than 8,000 council seats decided in 230 local authorities in England. There were also metro mayoral elections in London and the regional combined authorities (see below). 462 council seats will be voted on in Northern Ireland in two weeks.
Suffice to say it was a positive day for Labour and Liberal Democrats as borne out by the statistics below.

Metro mayoral elections
London - Labour’s Sadiq Khan has been re-elected for a historic third term as Mayor of London, securing just over 1,088,000 (43.8%) votes, a majority of some 275,000 over Conservative rival Susan Hall, who secured just under 813,000 (32.7%) votes.
