Generation Logistics case study: Tom, Sales Branch Manager Europa Road, Heathrow

Tom’s first job in the logistics sector was working as a warehouse operative part-time while he was at college. He then worked as an operator after returning from university on the Belgian and French markets, both imports and exports.

It wasn’t until two-and-a-half years later that he began his job in sales, a position he now loves and where he very much learnt on the job.

“This is what Europa does, these are our USPs, this is what we’re great at,” says Tom, enthusiastically. “You then take that knowledge and explain it to customers and hopefully win their business. Building a working relationship with them is crucial.”

Tom didn’t know anything about the logistics sector to start with but got some vital grounding in his initial roles and now makes a real difference in his current position.

A career highlight of Tom’s has been rolling out a new product for the company pre-Brexit. It was a hard slog at first, but Tom kept going and eventually got a breakthrough.

“I remember having a look at the league table one month, probably about March or April after a tough January and February, and thinking: ‘Ok, the hard work’s paid off!’ I then got the rewards for that.”
