Policy wins – May 2022

Wins recently achieved by the Logistics UK policy team.

SCOTTISH ZERO EMISSION TRUCK TASKFORCE

Logistics UK is partnering with Transport Scotland and the Road Haulage Association to launch a Zero Emission Truck Taskforce, which brings together road haulage and logistics operators, manufacturing, energy, and finance sectors to explore the challenges and opportunities of transitioning to zero tailpipe emission trucks. This taskforce provides an excellent opportunity to highlight the views of members and we will continue to work with Transport Scotland to share expertise on the journey to net zero to help shape future white papers presented to the Scottish Government.

DRIVER FACILITIES AND LORRY PARKING IN SCOTLAND

The importance of safe and secure lorry parking for logistics drivers is being included in the latest version of the Strategic Transport Plan Review (STPR 2). Following regular meetings and discussions with Transport Scotland, Logistics UK’s insights were put to the Scottish Government which recognised the importance of providing much needed facilities and lorry parking across the network – from trunk roads to urban centres.

ROADSIDE FACILITIES IMPROVEMENTS IN ENGLAND

Following continuous engagement with National Highways and the Department for Transport (DfT) on driver facilities and lorry parking, National Highways has pledged £20 million of its Users and Communities Fund for the improvement of roadside facilities in England. This is in addition to the £32.5 million already pledged by DfT.

Engagement included ongoing dialogue with National Highways and responding to relevant consultations, as well as highlighting the need for improvements to driver facilities in Logistics UK’s policy papers, Comprehensive Spending Review and Budget submissions.
