Save time, save money

When Southern Cranes and Access introduced Webfleet, Bridgestone’s award-winning fleet management solution, across its van, crane and heavy haulage operations, the company was targeting “major fleet efficiency and productivity improvements”.
It achieved this in spades, significantly reducing vehicle downtime and administration.
Notably, Webfleet TachoShare enabled tachograph data to be remotely downloaded from the Sussex-based company’s HGVs and shared with FTA Vision software for analysis.
For HGV operators, tachograph management is just one of a wealth of responsibilities faced on a daily basis – but it is undoubtedly one of the most important. It sits at the very heart of the processes that keep drivers, and the companies they work for, compliant with drivers’ hours rules.
Without the appropriate software support, however, the task can prove time consuming – and this, in turn, can prove business critical as companies strive to increase their output.
To manually download tachograph data, trucks must be in a specific location where downloading equipment is available – and this can negatively impact productivity.
Webfleet TachoShare removes this requirement, enabling tacho data to be remotely downloaded from vehicles and shared directly with third-party analysis software, helping to keep a lid on admin and trucks on the road.
Connected efficiency
The onus on fleet operators to do more with the same, or less, has seen telematics platforms also act as a catalyst for improved workflow management in other core areas.
Access to accurate vehicle and driver insights, including fuel consumption, driving times, vehicle locations and driving behaviour, can ultimately lead to better decisions on where to invest management time.
Jobs and orders, for example, can be sent with automatic routing information directly to drivers’ dedicated terminals or mobile app. Order optimisation tools allow managers to improve the visibility of daily workflow and optimise the sequence of jobs. Information from the customer can be relayed into ERP, CRM or accounting software suites and invoices can be automated, with accurate data detailing time spent with clients.
Tablet-style driver devices can have applications to simplify and streamline transport processes. Business partner apps on the Webfleet PRO 8 series, for example, can be used to simplify order management, scan barcodes and capture signatures for proof of delivery and conduct VOSA-compliant vehicle checks.
Fully integrated trailer management tools, meanwhile, have given operators a one-platform-solution for both their vehicles and trailers.
By monitoring trailer health, solutions such as Webfleet Trailer can improve safety and security, while real-time load data supports compliance with permissible cargo weights and reduces the risk of rollovers caused by overloading.
Insights help improve trailer utilisation and limit empty runs, while Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)-equipped trailers alert operators to abnormal tyre pressures or temperature. By flagging malfunctions and maintenance tasks, they can further reduce downtime.
Time really is money, but with the right technologies in place, fleets will find themselves better placed to make the most of their working days.
