Security remains high on the agenda for van operators

Sponsored content

Vans play a key role in the UK economy, particularly given the growth of urban and rural logistics activity in recent years.

Historically, members of Logistics UK’s Van Policy Working Group have identified vehicle security as a significant issue, with the impacts not limited to costs, but productivity and driver well-being too.

AN AVERAGE OF FOUR THEFTS A YEAR

As a result, in 2020, Logistics UK released its Van Security Report, following a survey comprised of van users and operators. Findings from the survey showed that, on average, organisations said they had items stolen from their vans four times in the previous 12 months, costing each business around £4,250 in total.

SIX OUT OF TEN REPORT PRODUCTIVITY LOSS

The report highlighted how, in addition to the initial value of stolen vehicles and/or contents, around 58% of survey respondents reported productivity loss, with businesses having to spend additional time and money sourcing replacement vehicles or equipment, repairing damage and filling out police reports and insurance claims. Operators also face incurring the loss of business and potential reputational damage from work that will have to be postponed or cancelled. Driver well-being was also impacted, with more than 60% of respondents noting that the driver was negatively impacted.

LATEST SOLUTIONS FROM TVL HELP PREVENT THEFT

As the cost of living rises and businesses face increasing financial pressure, van security will be vital for operators. TVL, a Logistics UK Van Gold Partner, continues to offer operators the latest solutions for effective theft prevention.

“With thieves resorting to more aggressive entry methods, it is crucial that fleets go above and beyond when protecting their mobile assets,” said Laura Moran, Managing Director, TVL Group. “Recent feedback from customers has indicated a high success rate; one business had previously reported repair and replacements costs of approximately £80,000 per year resulting from criminal attacks on its vehicles. However, since equipping 100 new vans with TVL Security’s highly effective crime prevention, the business has recorded just two attempted break-ins, both of which were unsuccessful. At a time of rising costs, protecting your vehicles and your business is vital.”
