Licensing issues...

Q: Our driver recently updated their driving licence and has now included their middle name. It has changed their licence number; do they need to update their Driver CPC and tachograph card?

A: While the records may be linked in the DVLA system, this may not be enough if stopped roadside and they would be required to update their details on the other cards.

Guidance received from DVLA is that ‘when someone changes or adds a name to their driving licence this will give them a new driver number.  DVSA normally generate a new DQC when this happens, so the individual should check with DVSA to see if this has happened and if not they can advise on what action if any, that the licence holder needs to take.

To update the tachograph card the driver needs to download and complete  a D777B application form (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/d777b-application-for-a-digital-tachograph-driver-card)’

Don't look back in camera...

Q: We have recently retrofitted reversing cameras with a monitor in the cab and it has been queried whether they can be left active at all times. Is this legal?

A: Reversing cameras can be left on, if they are set to do so, however we would urge caution that it may be possible that this could become a distraction, and it may have issues if it was deemed that the screen from the reversing camera was a distraction in the event of an incident.
