TfL – Improving air quality and Londoner’s health, tackling climate change and reducing congestion 

TfL is consulting on proposals to expand the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) London-wide on 29 August 2023. TfL wants to hear your views on its proposals. These proposals are part of the commitment by the Mayor of London and TfL to help improve air quality and public health, tackle the climate emergency and reduce traffic congestion across Greater London. Transport Scotland – A96 Corridor Review 

As part of this shared policy programme, various agreed principles regarding investment in the transport network were set out. In relation to the A96, the Scottish Government committed to take forward a transport enhancements programme on the A96 corridor that will improve connectivity between surrounding towns, tackle congestion and address safety and environmental issues. Exemptions to 2035 phase-out date for the sale of new non-zero emission HGVs 26 tonnes and under. Released 12/05/2022 – closes 22/07/2022. 

HMT – Potential Reforms to UK’s Capital Allowance Regime 

Ahead of the end of the super-deduction next year, the government is considering reforms to best support business investment, seeking to work with firms on capital allowances to help foster a new culture of enterprise and growth in the UK. Released 09/05/2022 – closes 01/07/2022. 

DfT – The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009 – RID / ADR 2021 amendments 

DfT is seeking your input on the potential cost/benefit impacts of the adopted RID/ADR 2021 amendments to your business/organisation. Your feedback will be essential in providing us with the evidence-based cost/benefit analysis and will equip the government with the information to shape future policy developments. Sales of electric vehicles reach an all-time high while UK boasts one of the most extensive networks of rapid chargers in Europe. 

24/05/2022 – DfT – Voyage to net zero in maritime underway as UK confirms £12 million for zero emission technologies 

Funding will kickstart decarbonisation innovation in the maritime sector and tackle shipping emissions. 

23/05/2022 – DfT – Taxis and private hire vehicles (Safeguarding and Road Safety) Act 2022 

Outlines the responsibilities of licensing authorities to share safeguarding and road safety concerns about taxi and private hire vehicle drivers with each other. 

23/05/2022 – DfT – Funding for transport projects to help tackle loneliness 

Pilot projects funded to explore how future transport schemes can contribute to reducing loneliness in communities. 

23/05/2022 – DfT – New rules are now in force for Light Goods Vehicle Operators in Europe 

On 21 May 2022, new EU rules came into force requiring users of vans and other light goods vehicles weighing between 2.5 and 3.5 tonnes and which transport goods for hire or reward from the UK into, or through the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein, to hold an International Operators’ Licence. 

23/05/2022 – Multi Department – Self-driving buses, shuttles and delivery vans could soon hit UK roads thanks to £40 million government-funded competition 

A new £40 million competition to kick-start commercial self-driving services, such as delivery vehicles and passenger shuttles, has been launched today.

The UK Covid Alert Level has moved from level 4 to level 3. 

19/05/2022 – DfT – International Transport Forum: call to action on the Russian Federation’s military aggression against Ukraine 

A call to action, signed by transport ministers at the International Transport Forum, showing solidarity and support for Ukraine in light of the Russian Federation’s unprovoked, large-scale aggression. 

18/05/2022 – DVSA – Launching the trailer safety accreditation scheme 

The new training scheme will provide motorists with the skills and knowledge they need to tow safely. The training covers large and small trailers – and courses are also available for drivers who want to tow specific types of trailers such as caravans and horseboxes.
