Department for Infrastructure – Consultation on the ban of tyres 10 years or older on heavy goods vehicles, buses, coaches and minibuses 

This Consultation is seeking your views about the proposal to introduce legislation in the North of Ireland which bans the use of tyres 10 years or older on certain vehicle types. The ban would apply to the front axles of heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches and on all axles of minibuses when fitted in single configuration, but does not include private cars. Released 24/10/2022 – closes 18/12/2023. 

Scottish Government – National Marine Plan 2 

Marine Scotland Directorate is in the initial stages of developing a new National Marine Plan (NMP2) that will aim to address current challenges facing the marine sector. Released 06/10/2022 - closes 31/01/2023.

DfT – Driving licensing review - call for evidence on opportunities for changes to the driver licensing regime 

A call for evidence that sought views on potential opportunities to improve the UK’s driving licensing regime. Released 05/08/2022 – closed 28/10/2022. 

BEIS – Review of Net Zero: call for evidence 

Chris Skidmore MP invited evidence on the government’s approach to delivering its net zero target, as part of an Independent Review of Net Zero. Released 29/09/2022 – closed 27/10/2022. 

CCAV – Self-driving vehicles: new safety ambition 

Sought views on their proposed safety ambition for self-driving vehicles to form the foundation of a new self-driving vehicle safety framework. Released 19/08/2022 – closed 14/10/2022. 

Welsh Government – National transport delivery plan: 2022 to 2027 

Welsh Government wanted your views on its draft national transport delivery plan. Released 19/07/2022 – closed 11/10/2022. 

DfT – Domestic maritime decarbonisation: the course to net zero emissionsinvited views on routes to net zero and how best to accelerate decarbonisation in the domestic maritime sector. Released 14/07/2022 – closed 06/10/2022. 

Multi Department – Driving licence flexibility for alternatively-fuelled vehicles 

Sought views on licence flexibility alterations including training requirements, vehicle type, towing allowance and eligible powertrains. Released 09/08/2022 – closed 04/10/2022.

27/10/2022 – DfT – Cross-modal transport statistics user feedback summary 

Summary of findings from user feedback, and proposed changes, for timelier cross-modal statistics, and how it affects Transport Statistics Great Britain. 

24/10/2022 - DVSA - DVSA earned recognition scheme launches new TfL module 

DVSA’s earned recognition scheme has launched a ‘TfL’ module which helps accredited operators bid for Transport for London contracts. 

24/10/2022 – DfT – DfT Independent complaint assessors - terms of reference 

This document sets out the terms of reference for the Department for Transport's independent complaint assessors (ICAs). 

22/10/2022 – DfT -- Sir Chris Whitty among senior figures appointed to Active Travel England advisory panel 

England’s Chief Medical Officer joins West Midlands’ Mayor, Chair of the Office of Rail and Road, and Arup’s Global Transport Leader. 

20/10/2022 – DfT – Transport and environment statistics: 2022 

Environmental impacts of transport, including comparisons of greenhouse gas emissions for different transport modes. 

20/10/2022 – DfT – Transport Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill 

Announces the introduction of the Transport Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill. 

20/10/2022 – DfT – New bill to keep Britain moving during transport strikes 

Transport Strikes (Minimum Service Levels) Bill will ensure some transport services still run during strikes. 

19/10/2022 – DfT – Remote delivery of dangerous goods driver training extension: authorisation 1013 

Allows the theory and individual practical elements of dangerous goods driver training to be delivered remotely under authorisation 1013. 

19/10/2022 – DVSA – Mandatory laden brake testing at annual test – 2 months to go 

Last month, DVSA confirmed that most vehicles and trailers will have to be appropriately laden for their annual test from 1 January 2023 onwards. Any vehicles and trailers which are not laden (unless exempt, such as tri-axle semi-trailers or refuse collection vehicles) will be refused a test by DVSA’s Vehicle Standards Assessors (VSAs). 

18/10/2022 – DfT – Noise camera trials to detect rowdy drivers coming to Bradford, Bristol, Great Yarmouth and Birmingham 

New technology will identify antisocial drivers and reduce noise pollution. 

13/10/2022 – OTC – Important message for all HGV operators 

You may be aware of a recent legal decision made by the Upper Tribunal where it was ruled that all goods vehicles in possession of an operator are deemed to be ‘in use’ and must be authorised under the operator’s licence. This ruling means that operators must specify all goods vehicles in their possession, onto their operator’s licence even if they are not used on a public road all the time. 

13/10/2022 – DVSA – Publishing our enforcement statistics 

DVSA has published enforcement statistics naming operators and the offences covering the 2021 calendar year. 

13/10/2022 – DfT – International road freight statistics: 2021 

International activity of British and Northern Irish Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) in 2021. 

13/10/2022 – DfT – Quarterly bus statistics: April to June 2022 

Local bus passenger journeys and fares statistics in Great Britain for April to June 2022. 

07/10/2022 – OTC – A Guide to Driver Conduct Hearings 

This guide contains important information you should read in advance of a hearing. 

06/10/2022 – DVSA – New features added to DVSA's MOT reminders and history services 

DVSA is launching a campaign to tell motorists about the new features which are now available in its MOT reminders and MOT history services. 

06/10/2022 – DfT – Driver and rider testing and instructor statistics: April 2021 to March 2022 

Driver standards statistics on the numbers and pass rates for driving, riding theory, practical tests and registered driving and riding instructors.
