Freight Councils 2024

As a Logistics UK member, you are invited to join and participate in our Freight Councils that take place in locations across the UK and online three times a year. These Councils are central to Logistics UK’s democratic structure and by joining, you will be able to share views on topical issues and help shape our policy positions.

Freight Councils give all Logistics UK members the opportunity to:

  • Learn about policies being proposed by UK, regional and local government and their agencies and the implications of these for logistics operations – aimed at helping future-proof members’ operations.

  • Help decide Logistics UK’s response to proposals – ensuring the needs of members’ companies are taken into consideration in what we say.

  • Network with peers in the industry, discussing topics ranging from key and operational issues to national transport policy matters.

Our final round of Freight Councils for 2024 this autumn will give you the chance to have your say on a broad range of topics which help influence and determine our position with government. In addition to the topical matters we discuss, many of the meetings feature external guest speakers including DVSA, Midlands Connect and Transport North East.

In our recent Councils topics for discussion have included:

  • Safe System and Vision Zero – as this has become adopted more and more our members have expressed concern that the scheme isn’t as understood as it could be and there should be a greater standardisation of safety equipment across the country.

  • A refresh to the Logistics UK skills policy position with regards to assisting members who are facing challenges in recruiting and retaining staff especially in light of the critical shortages of some technicians.

  • Discussing concerns members have around the operator licence needs to be brought in line with Europe.

  • National and local strategies for improving road safety.

  • Reviewing the Transport Manager CPC syllabus.

  • Future skills priorities for the industry.

We do hope you or a colleague will be able to join our Freight Councils as Logistics UK is keen to meet and hear from as many members as possible as we discuss the topics that matter to you! If you would like to attend any of our Freight Councils meetings, please contact our membership support team here.

In addition to the Freight Councils, there is the opportunity to join our Modal Councils for rail, water and air, our Engineering Forums or specific Working Groups on topics such as innovation and environment policy. All the groups can be viewed here  and we would welcome your participation in any that are relevant to your business.
