Dave Conway, IMS & Road Safety Manager, FM Conway Ltd

Dave has more than 40 years’ experience in the highways maintenance and construction industry.  His focus for the last 20 of those years has been management systems and standards, and in 2012 he created a Road Traffic Safety Management System for FM Conway Ltd, based on the new international standard, ISO 39001, Road Traffic Safety Management Systems. This led to the company becoming only the third company in Europe, and the seventeenth in the World, to achieve certification against the standard. 

He is a passionate supporter of the standard and devotes time to both promoting it and assisting other businesses to adopt it. In addition, Dave is a full member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS), is an active member of the Logistics UK' working groups on Van Safety, and for Innovation and Technology, representing the trade association of the UK freight industry, and is a former member of the FORS Governance and Standards Advisory Group (GSAG).

 

Andy Neale, General Manager, RED Training

Andy Neale is the General Manager at RED Training which delivers Driver Training, to ‘at work’ drivers and Wellbeing & Resilience training to drivers and non-drivers alike. Andy left school at just 16 and spent 10 years in the Police; the last 6 in the Traffic Division on the newly opened M25! He then began his 30+ year training career, firstly, in the L driver market before moving on to deliver ‘flee t’ driver driving.

Andy become aware that drivers made mistakes due to ‘bad decisions’ and not due to poor driving skills. He created a unique Driver Training style that works ‘with’ drivers to develop their decision-making ability and importantly, improves health & wellbeing across the areas of fatigue, hydration, nutrition and stress management.

 

Dan Crutchington, Senior Transport Advisor, Logistics UK

Daniel Crutchington’ career began with Exel Logistics in a tachograph checking and administration assistance role, and since finishing university has had various roles within the logistics industry; progressing from warehouse operative, up to shift supervisor in an FMCG operation. He was responsible for overseeing the expansion and set-up of contracts in new locations within the established network, before becoming Transport Manager of a large two-man home delivery parcel operation.

Dan joined Logistics UK in February 2020 as a Senior Transport Advisor and one of the most interesting and enjoyable aspects is being able to discuss a wide range and variety of topics every day and share information with people.

 

David Jordan, Deputy Director of Operations – Services, Logistics UK

Experience includes developing and delivering international training and development programs for over 25 years – working alongside and in partnership with global OEM’s in automotive, LCV’s and truck and bus. These include Aston Martin, Rolls Royce, Jaguar, Volkswagen Group, Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Hyundai Truck/Bus and Opel/Vauxhall.

Extensive successes across L2 to L5 certified program design and delivery in the adult and apprenticeship sectors. Also, global product launch events using latest technologies to support and engage multi-cultural audiences. Hugh focus on using technology in learning including micro, adaptive and immersive learning experiences delivered through digital means.

Previously engaged as Director of Education and Qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport heading up their Awarding Organisation, Training and Qualifications department. Ex International Managing Director of RTS Group International and UK Training Operations Manager for Vauxhall/Opel Ireland. Have been working closely with independent apprenticeship providers and end point assessment teams. A sample includes the large Vauxhall/Opel/Raytheon L2/L3 technical apprenticeship network program based in the UK. Motived to get Apprenticeships on the agenda for all businesses and encourage all shapes and sizes of businesses invest in growing their own talent and take advantage of the support on offer.

 

Denise Beedell, Public Policy Manager, Logistics UK

Denise Beedell Logistics UK's Policy Manager - Vans and Urban, a newly created post to address the growing number of policy issues emerging from local and central Government that are likely to affect van users and operators. She helps to deliver Logistics UK's urban logistics policy agenda, in particular proactively leading Logistics UK's policy work on vans, working across the Association to establish and manage services for van operators and users, including publications, information services and discussion forums in connection with policy and regulatory issues. Denise joined Logistics UK last summer from the Federation of Small Businesses, where she was Development Manager for Greater London and led on policy for Transport, Environment and Crime in the capital.

 

James Firth, Head of Road Freight Regulation Policy, Logistics UK

James Firth is Head of Road Freight Regulation Policy with Logistics UK and leads the development of the Association’s policies regarding operator licensing, DVSA and the Traffic Commissioners.  He is also secretary to Logistics UK's National Road Freight Council. 

Before joining Logistics UK in 2006, he spent four years in the civil service including as Private Secretary to two transport ministers with responsibility for freight and logistics, and driver and vehicle licensing issues, then in the rail freight policy team. 

James graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2000 with a BSc in Biological Sciences and he currently lives in Leeds with his wife, two sons and a daughter.

 

Jerry Kane, Commercial Director, Logistics UK

Jerry joined Logistics UK in 2018 with over 25 years commercial experience in the parcels, logistics services and logistics software markets. During this time Jerry has been the Sales Director of some of the industry's leading operators including DHL, Yodel and Eddie Stobart.

In addition to this he has run his own logistics consultancy specialising in business development, product development, sales and marketing.

 

Paul Kirby, Owner, EV Essentials,

Paul has over 30 years of automotive experience primarily working in the LCV sector. Having held senior roles in the fleet and leasing sector and managing a commercial fleet operation he now has his own Consulting, Training and Media company – EV Essentials. Having first driven an Electric Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in 2004 and now recognised by GreenFleet as being in the Top 100 most influential people operating in the Fleet Sustainability space, his main aim is to help commercial vehicle fleets of all shapes and sizes get started on the transition to an electric/zero emission fleet.

 

Phil Lloyd, Head of Engineering Policy, Logistics UK

Phil has been the Logistics UK’s Head of Engineering Policy, taking up the role in June 2018, having spent most of his career working for the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

He served his apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Engineering in Manchester and joined what is now DVSA as a vehicle examiner, spending over 30 years with them in a wide range of operational roles, including Auditing, Training and vehicle certification.  For the last 13 of his years with DVSA Phil held a variety of senior management positions including; Head of Operations, Head of Policy, Head of Strategy & Planning and Head of Transformation, over that time leading the implementation of their Testing Transformation project, developing their Roadside Enforcement Strategy.

Before joining the Logistics UK Phil was a self-employed contractor, providing technical training for MOT testers and consultancy to the Authorised Testing Facilities Operators Association (ATFOA); designing and developing a testing solutions strategy, which was supported by the Logistics UK as well as the other main Transport Trade Associations.

 

Rachel Shorney, Stakeholder & Community Engagement Manager, SP Energy Networks - Manchester event

Rachel is a Chartered Electrical Engineer with 30 years of experience in the electricity distribution industry, having worked for BICC Power Cables and then Manweb, now SP Energy Networks, since before privatisation in 1990.

Rachel is now focusing on the electrification of transport and heat and helping all SP Energy Networks customers to understand the implications for their domestic, industrial and commercial needs. She was part of the successful bid for Ofgem innovation funding for the Electric Vehicle project CHARGE, which is developing a transport map for the SP Manweb licence area to help facilitate the uptake of electric vehicle charging points onto the SP Energy Networks electricity network.

These are exciting times in the electricity industry and Rachel is dedicated to helping stakeholders fully understand the opportunities that are available as we work to decarbonise the industry and achieve UK and Local Government zero carbon aspirations.

 

Sophie Sudworth, RIIO-ED2 Connections Lead, SP Energy Networks - Beaconsfield event

Sophie currently leads the Connections workstream of SP Energy Networks RIIO-ED2 Business Plan.

Sophie’s previous roles as a Senior Electrical Design Engineer for Merseyside saw her support customers and stakeholders with designs for new electricity connections to suit their needs. Most recently Sophie has held the position of Customer Engagement Manager with a specific remit to support customers with advice and network expertise to deliver connections for electrification and decarbonisation.

These are exciting times in the electricity industry and Sophie is dedicated to helping stakeholders fully understand the opportunities that are available as we work to decarbonise the industry and achieve UK and Local Government zero carbon aspirations.

 

Tim Campbell, Managing Director, Campbells Consultancy Ltd

Tim has over 40 years experience of working in the commercial vehicle industry and owned Europe’s leading commercial vehicle only research company working around the world before a friendly take-over in 2013 of his data division.

Since then he's concentrated on consultancy, helping clients manage the transition from diesel to electric / hydrogen fuel cell; indeed he was recently the Senior Commercial Vehicle Consultant for the National Grid (Ventures Division), looking at the strategic implications of the UK’s route to zero emissions for the road transport sector.  Tim holds a Galileo Master Certificate in Electric Vehicles and Energy Storage from the European Energy Centre, is a council member of the Zemo, contributed to the government’s Electric Vehicle Taskforce Report and a regular speaker at various global conferences on EV /Fuel Cell.
