DCI Brett Mallon, Head of Unit, NaVCIS

Starting his Police career as a Special Constable, Brett quickly realised that this was what he wanted to do – ‘to make a difference and stop the bad guys’.  Brett has 20 years Police service with Gloucestershire Constabulary; with experience ranging from being a uniform ‘bobby on the beat’, through to investigating serious crime as a Detective Sergeant in CID and latterly as a Detective Inspector specialising in “Digital Intelligence and Investigations” heavily involved in the national development of digital policing capabilities.

A reoccurring lesson throughout his career has been ‘if not me then who?’ and to be willing to ask questions and push boundaries into new areas rather than waiting for someone else to do it. This was incredibly important in Digital Policing where many of the greatest advances have been driven from practitioners on the front line rather than a central body of experts.

In November 2019 Brett moved to take the position as Head of Unit at NaVCIS, as a Detective Chief Inspector; where he treasured his spirit of enquiry and use his knowledge of both investigations and the digital world to keep the unit relevant and successful.
