General Safety Regulation 661/2009 From 2011 European Commission Regulation 661/2009 sets type approval requirements for the general safety of motor vehicles, and introduces new mandatory safety features on vehicles.
The aim is to reduce the regulatory burden on industry through the repeal of 50 directives and their amendments on general vehicle safety and on tyre noise, and consolidate them into one regulation.
The regulation applies to cars, light and medium commercial vehicles, and heavy vehicles, and to new tyres (new tyres only, excludes re-treaded tyres).
