Maximising use of rail and water
What is Logistics UK campaigning for?
Logistics UK is the only organisation in the UK that represents all of logistics, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers whose businesses depend on the efficient movement of goods. Our vision is to optimise all modes of transport, to ensure UK logistics is as efficient, resilient and competitive as possible.
Modes such as rail and water freight (short-sea, inland and coastal), can provide a cost-effective alternative, particularly where large quantities of goods need to be moved on a regular basis. Air freight is a crucial option for freight both for long-distance and short-haul and domestic flights, providing a reliable and fast service for higher-value and highly time-sensitive goods.
There are further opportunities for growth in use of all these modes, which would relieve pressure on the UK’s congested roads. To encourage this to happen, Government needs to act to promote innovation, create the right planning and pricing environment, and ensure that freight’s needs are adequately protected amid competing demands on infrastructure.
