New £200 million freight ferry terminal for Immingham

Ferry company Stena Line and UK port operator Associated British Ports (ABP) are set to start work on a new freight ferry terminal based at the Port of Immingham.

Representing an investment of more than £200 million alongside a boost to the Humber region of England where the unaccompanied freight market has been growing, Immingham is becoming a strategic hub for Stena Line which runs two daily services from the Humber region to the Netherlands.

The new roll on – roll off (RoRo) terminal, AKA the Immingham Eastern RoRo Terminal (or ‘IERRT’) will provide access to the main Humber Estuary, allowing for quicker sailing times and the option to use larger vessels to accommodate increased freight demand from importers and exporters.

Stena Line signed a long-term agreement with ABP securing operations at the new terminal in Immingham through the next century.

It will be a key lever in supporting the UK economy and creating and supporting local jobs – around 700 construction jobs are required in the near future, and a further 200 jobs in terminal operations.
