GF Job invests in new flagship Volvo fleet

The company was established in 1990 with early work involved in civil engineering and earthworks, but it has since expanded its haulage division and today operates 16 commercial vehicles including six heavy haulage tractor units and two 44-tonne trucks. 

Now, Volvo's flagship – the FH16 780, a 150-tonne tractor unit – is joining that fleet and the FH16 750 will be semi-retired after thirteen years of service. 

The 780 will be used for a wide range of heavy haulage duties including transporting its own plant machinery, forestry work, and a variety of specialist loads including drilling rigs, wind turbines and oil refinery machinery. 

The 780 comes equipped with a 17-litre Euro 6-compliant step E engine which provides 780hp and a peak torque of 3,800Nm. 

Furthermore, its patented wave piston design optimises combustion and reduces emissions, and a new injection system ensures optimal fuel economy. 

The engine brake power across the entire range has been improved, enabling faster gear shifts and leading to less wear and tear on the brake pads and discs. 

The FH16 780 is expected to clock up to 120,000km per year with all servicing and maintenance work carried out at Volvo Truck and Bus North & Scotland’s depot in Inverness.
