Generation Logistics Case Study
Mateusz Miczek, Operations Supervisor – James Latham Leeds.
As an Operations Supervisor at James Latham Leeds, I supervise the actions in the warehouse as well as Goods Out process.
I am in charge of creating manifests for the company internal transportation system. I work with warehouse operatives and HGV drivers to make sure everything in depot operations runs smoothly.
For this job no qualifications are required but you must have experience in working in an operations environment and know how to supervise/manage people. Many people get promoted to that role when they want to succeed and work hard.
I found my role via a job site after finishing at the School of Logistics in Poland and always thought about continuing my career in logistics, operations or supply chain. At school, I have learnt about every aspect of logistics, from route planning to warehouse cost optimisation.
I did like that challenge where you are the one who has to find the best way of doing something or making sure everything runs smoothly and is efficient and effective.
Sometimes, I have to become a detective to discover what happened during the process or where a missing product is.
Work and life experience taught me about the wider perspective, and this is what helps me succeed in many of those situations. The best thing about my role is that I can work with people and make their working situation easier.
People are the foundations of every company and taking care of them should be the utmost priority. Looking for new ways of helping “my guys” is the best thing about my role.
The highlight of my career so far is winning Timber Trade Journal Career Development (Over 25) award. This with finishing a Level 3 Team Leader and Supervisor course (with Distinction) gave me a massive confidence boost that I can achieve anything if I work hard.
