Key topics generating media interest included the approval of plans for a second runway at Gatwick Airport, the increase in tolls on the Dartford Crossing, and the introduction in October of the EU Entry/Exit System. Between 27 August and 24 September, 95 items of editorial coverage were placed by the team, creating the opportunity for over 530 million people to see Logistics UK’s point of view.

The future of home parcel delivery

The team negotiated an interview with BBC Radio 4’s ‘Dough’ programme and podcast with Greg Foot, on the subject of the future of home parcel delivery. This is the first time that Logistics UK has been featured on this programme and contact will be maintained to identify future opportunities.

Gatwick Airport expansion

Logistics UK’s comments in support of the Transport Secretary’s decision to approve plans for a second runway at Gatwick Airport were widely published in the trade press.

Dartford Crossing tolls increase

An interview was placed on BBC Radio Kent regarding the increase in tolls on the Dartford Crossing, with Logistics UK’s comments repeated in the channel’s news bulletins throughout the day.

EU Entry/Exit System

Also on BBC Radio Kent, another interview was broadcast regarding the introduction on 12 October of the EU Entry/Exit System.

The month ahead

The media team will continue to raise awareness of members’ opinions on issues affecting the sector, including the introduction in October of the EU Entry/Exit System and other trade and border issues, the need for the Chancellor to avoid a hike in fuel duty in her Autumn Statement on 26 November, and the continued road to decarbonisation. The team will continue to focus on the industry’s skills shortages, promoting the Generation Logistics campaign at every opportunity and highlighting the need for improved driver facilities. The team will also be promoting Logistics UK’s forthcoming events, including the autumn Transport Manager conference series which is now under way and is in its 25th year, and this year’s Logistics Awards which take place in December.

Have you got a story? If you are keen to speak to the media about a pressing issue – from skills shortages to fuel costs, urban restrictions to future logistics – or to highlight some of the great work your organisation is doing, we would love to hear from you as journalists are always keen to hear from those affected by issues. We are also keen to publicise those with personal achievements to shout about – maybe staff members who have received special awards or with unusual hobbies or expertise. And as always, the media is keen to talk to women working across the industry – we are particularly on the lookout for female drivers who are happy to talk to the press. Please contact the media team at [email protected] – we look forward to hearing from you!
