However, support is needed for businesses with the higher costs associated with operating zero emission vehicles and using low carbon fuels. 

Logistics UK has been calling for investment to increase the uptake of green technologies and has therefore welcomed that the UK government has launched a new £30 million Depot Charging Scheme (DCS) to help fleet operators install electric vehicle charging infrastructure for vans, HGVs and coaches.

It is widely accepted that battery electric commercial vehicles will be widely adopted, however, for many operators looking to secure grid connections, install charging infrastructure and purchase new vehicles, the cost is a barrier. Therefore, this scheme is a positive step for industry and will help support the infrastructure needed to scale zero-emission logistics.  

Additionally, Transport Scotland has launched a Heavy Goods Vehicle Market Readiness Fund for 2025-56, committing £2 million to support Scottish firms decarbonise.

The fund is split into two parts, with half the fund designed to support smaller HGV operators invest in the net zero transition. The second half of the fund is to support the development of a new HGV consortium, promoting collaborative working in order to build a business case for investment into zero emission HGVs and charging infrastructure in Scotland.
