A month in the media – April 2025

By building and maintaining strong relationships with the media, and providing timely responses to issues, the team has generated significant coverage on topics affecting the logistics industry ranging from US tariffs to the Lower Thames Crossing and border checks.

Between 26 March and 22 April 2025, 366 items of editorial coverage were placed by the team, creating the opportunity for approximately 1.8 billion people to see Logistics UK’s views.

US tariffs

Logistics UK’s comments were published in an article on the Financial Times website on US tariffs and their potential effect on Northern Ireland trade. After Stormont Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald announced a working group to examine the impact of trade tariffs, on which Logistics UK would be represented, the news was covered by around 200 national and regional news outlets, including the ITV, LBC, Mail, Independent and Standard websites as well as Yahoo! News UK & Ireland, MSN UK and AOL.

Lower Thames Crossing 

Following the approval by the Secretary of State for Transport of the Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Lower Thames Crossing, Logistics UK’s comments were published in the print edition of The Independent and by around 50 regional and trade publications. Interviews took place on LBC News, BBC Essex, Greatest Hits Radio and KMFM and the organisation’s comments were subsequently broadcast on 12 regional BBC radio stations.

Border checks

Logistics UK’s evidence to the Environment, Food & Rural Affairs Committee on border checks was broadcast on BBC Radio 4’s Yesterday in Parliament programme.

Skills

Logistics UK’s statistics were quoted in an item on female truck drivers on the Daily Mirror website.

The month ahead 

The media team will continue to raise awareness of members’ opinions on issues affecting the sector, including decarbonisation, trade and border issues. The team will continue to focus on the industry’s skills shortages, promoting the Generation Logistics campaign at every opportunity and highlighting the need for improved driver facilities. Plans are under way for the promotion of Logistics UK’s exciting 2025 events programme, including Operating Light Commercial Vehicles, Fleet Engineer and the Logistics UK Annual Conference – a new flagship event taking place in London on 4 June.
