Flexis skateboarding into 2026

Based on a skateboard platform developed by Renault's Ampere unit, Flexis envisions a range of small, "urban proof" delivery vehicles meant for busy city settings, able to send data in real time to fleet managers and receive over-the-air updates.

The EV skateboard is a modular platform designed for electric vehicles. It’s called a “skateboard” because – well – it looks like one.

The vehicles themselves have been designed with delivery and cargo tasks in mind, and feature customisable interiors, low floors, DC fast-charging capabilities, and a range of up to 280 miles in the WLTP cycle. A total of three vehicles is expected to kick off the range including a panel van, cargo van, and step-in van.  

The company is now in pre-production phase after 20 prototypes have been completed and have racked up over 9,000 hours of driving since March 2024, with Flexis looking to begin series production by the middle of next year.  

Focused on the development of 100% electric urban vehicles based on a common EV-native platform and equipped with a Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) electronic architecture, the company also presented the integrated software and services developed to support logistics operators in the UK, France and Germany.

Flexis anticipates a potential demand of up to 15,000 vehicles over three years. Three of these operators – HIVED (UK), Colis Privé (France), and DB Schenker (Germany), are working with Flexis to jointly develop profitable operational solutions.

Currently undergoing industrialisation at the Renault Group's Sandouville plant, the first customer deliveries are scheduled for 2026.

The platform allows the vehicles to send real-time data to fleet management operators to maximise operational efficiency, as well as receive over-the-air updates, essentially turning the vehicle into a computer on wheels.

The range of vehicles, also based on the Estafette concept unveiled at the IAA Transportation show in Hanover last September, has been designed with logistics operations in mind to significantly improve efficiency.

All vehicles feature a low floor height, the possibility to fully customise the interior, the integration of high-capacity battery solutions and a range of up to 280 miles WLTP.

Flexis has already invested €350 million in the development of the product range and will enter the industrialisation and pre-production phase in 2025. Series production will begin in mid-2026 at the Renault Group's Sandouville plant in France.
