Winning technologies will be deployed at UK ports

Thames Freeport has announced the winning technologies from its Connectivity Lab following a demo day on 26 March.

Supported by Thames Freeport’s £4 million investment into 5G infrastructure with £1.2 million invested directly, each innovation is expected to deliver a 25% increase in connectivity.

The programme, which brought together businesses, scale-ups and public sector partners to address real-world challenges, narrowed down a pool of over 140 applicants to eight companies. These companies then tested their technologies in live commercial environments, with the demo day being the culmination of their work.

Thames Freeport’s partners – Port of Tilbury, DP World London Gateway and Ford Dagenham – chose the winning technologies following piloting across their sites.

The Port of Tilbury, for instance, has launched an extended pilot with Aible which uses AI-based analysis to equip port teams with making better and faster decisions. Ford Dagenham also chose to launch an extended pilot with Aible alongside FocaLX, which provides mobile device-based AI analysis to enhance the process of inspecting vehicles arriving and leaving the site to reduce and standardise disputes.

The Connectivity Lab is part of Thames Freeport’s ongoing strategy to grow competitive industrial sectors and improve productivity, widening access to industrial sites for technology companies and providing operators with a low-risk way of testing and adopting new technology.
