Spotlight on the Policy Team – Dominic Aeissame
With Dominic Aeissame, Public Affairs Manager.
I have just joined Logistics UK as Public Affairs Manager. My role is to help shape policy affecting the logistics industry and to elevate our industry’s image with government, ensuring there is a clear understanding that nothing moves without logistics. I also ensure our members are informed of both the opportunities and risks arising from government policy, helping to create the best possible environment for them to thrive and grow across land, rail, sea and air.
When researching the organisation, it felt like an excellent fit with my previous experience and offered that same collaborative environment. I was excited by the opportunity to engage across such a wide range of issues that impact members on a daily basis. Learning about the variety of challenges and opportunities facing the logistics industry is something I have found genuinely exciting.
I studied International Relations and Politics at university and volunteered with the Labour Party in Northampton North in my final year. After university I joined Whitehouse Communications in 2020 as an Associate consultant, working within the UK Public Affairs team. During my time there, I worked with a range of clients across sectors including health, energy and the environment, social care, charities and human rights, and tech.
I am particularly proud of the campaigns I worked on, supporting charities and human rights organisations. This included working with phs and Prostate Cancer UK on the Dispose with Dignity campaign, which aimed to address the lack of facilities for men to dispose of incontinence products in public and workplace washrooms. Male urinary incontinence is a common side effect of prostate cancer treatment. We successfully raised the issue’s profile among policymakers and secured agreement from the Health and Safety Executive to consult on introducing male sanitary bins in workplace toilets.
I am most excited about the opportunity to elevate Logistics UK’s profile among policymakers and take it to the next level. As a new starter, my perspective is that the logistics industry is often seen as a jack of all trades — touching everything but not always recognised as central to any single policy area.
We impact transport, infrastructure, healthcare, energy and the environment, housing, trade, and the wider economy, yet this breadth is not always reflected in how government engages with us. I want to turn that breadth into our greatest strength and ensure government understands that, because logistics underpins so many policy areas, it is fundamental to delivering the growth agenda.
