Roadworthiness Inspection

Logistics UK's flagship Vehicle Inspection Service. Delivered by our nationwide UKAS accredited team, this inspection reports on defects that could affect the safety, legality and reliability of your vehicle before the next scheduled inspection.

Roadworthiness Inspection

Logistics UK's roadworthiness inspections offer an independent maintenance inspection to fulfil your operator licence obligations and protects your o-licence by ensuring your fleet is compliant.

2024 Government data shows that:

  • Whilst there has been a steady decline in both initial and final MOT failure rates for HGVs and trailers from 2013/14 to 2023/24, brake system failures have increased recently.
  • HGV failure rates rise from 3.3% for vehicles up to 1 year old to 23.9% for those 12+ years old.
  • Trailer failure rates increase from 2.7% for new trailers to 15.9% for those 12+ years old.
  • Smaller fleets have a greater risk of MOT failure than larger fleets, with single-vehicle fleets having a 17.9% failure rate, compared to larger vehicle fleets with over101 vehicles, which have a much lower rate of 4.1%.

With the DVSA using OCRS scores to target operators for roadside checks, by substituting just one mandatory PMI per year, with a Logistics UK roadworthiness inspection, all operators can achieve substantial savings on their maintenance regime. Using our roadworthiness inspection as an annual quality control allows you to:

  • Improve your OCRS score leading to fewer stops and fewer delays to work schedules.
  • Increase your DVSA pass rate resulting in fewer penalties, less fleet downtime and reduced costs from unscheduled repairs.
  • Increase your MOT first time pass rate, saving costs.
  • Identify errors made by your existing maintenance provider to keep them at the top of their game.
  • Protect your o-licence by fulfilling your responsibility as an o-licence holder to check vehicle maintenance provision and control its quality.

This inspection is available nationwide, across many different sectors and for both small and large fleets. It covers all the items that make up the statutory annual test, as well as items that should be covered by driver walkaround checks. It provides you with a full inspection report and discussion with our engineer to help keep you compliant. Typical use is PMI and Audit Inspection for your maintenance provider - as per DVSA's Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness.
