The Vehicle Maintenance System Check (VMSC) is a maintenance management audit designed to assess whether a transport operator’s vehicle maintenance arrangements are compliant with Operator Licence (O-Licence) requirements and the principles contained within the DVSA Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness (GTMR).
It is a smaller, simplified audit compared with a full maintenance systems audit and is intended to identify areas that may attract adverse attention from DVSA Vehicle Examiners or Traffic Commissioners.
The audit can serve as an early-warning mechanism to identify deficiencies before they become DVSA enforcement issues. The audit is not intended to provide consultancy but rather to assess compliance against recognised standards.
The audit can serve as an early-warning mechanism to identify deficiencies before they become DVSA enforcement issues.
The main objective is to determine:
- Whether suitable maintenance arrangements exist.
- Whether those arrangements are being followed.
- Whether vehicle maintenance records support compliance.
- Whether the operator would withstand a DVSA maintenance investigation.
The audit is not intended to provide consultancy but rather to assess compliance against recognised standards.
