How the logistics industry can help tidy up the UK’s roads

Did you know that an estimated 2.25 million pieces of litter are dropped every day in this country, with 73.3% of it associated with drinking (coffees, soft drinks and alcohol), according to Keep Britain Tidy?

And in addition to harming wildlife where it is dropped, the organisation’s research shows that areas with high levels of rubbish dropped in them are likely to become even more littered as people believe that their own contribution to the problem does not matter.

Unfortunately, HGV and other commercial drivers are one of the biggest contributors to roadside litter across the strategic roads network, according to Highways England. So, to encourage a change in behaviour, Logistics UK has stepped up with a new product now available in its shop, the CabBin.

A collapsible nylon rubbish bin, the CabBin can be used to hold litter in the vehicle’s cab, ranging from drinks cans and coffee cups to sandwich boxes and fast-food wrapping, preventing waste from cluttering dashboards and footwells where it could pose a potential accident risk, and then emptied when a fixed litter bin is available. It has a Velcro tab to keep the bin in place on a vehicle’s floor or seat when in use, and once emptied, stores flat and can be slid behind or under a seat to keep floorspace clear until it needs to be used again.

The CabBin is available now from Logistics UK’s shop priced at £5.58 per unit for Logistics UK members or £6.58 for non-members.
