Keeping up to date…

Q. In last week’s MAC briefing, it talked about keeping our contact details updated on the Vehicle Operator Licence (VOL) System. How do we do this?

A. Once you have logged into your self-service account, find the tab or link that says ‘licence overview’. On that page there is a section to change your details to update any email addresses or phone numbers. Accurate contact details on VOL are essential, as this is the method the Office of the Traffic Commissioner uses for communicating with operators.

Q. Since the introduction of smart tachograph 2 (ST2) in 2024, we have experienced a number of failures with drivers highlighting errors D6 and D8. What is the latest update on these errors as they continue to occur?

A. Spurious D6 (security breach attempt) and D8 (recording equipment fault) are known issues with ST2. DVSA advice to us was that a software update is intended to be rolled out to prevent these false errors from triggering. At present, the progress for this has not been at the speed DVSA was expecting by the manufacturers. Discussions on how these codes are treated for analysis are ongoing.
