Compatibility of Generation 2 Smart Tachographs and existing Vehicle Unit Download Devices

As you may be aware the Generation 2 Smart tachograph, although not compulsory in the UK for non-international journeys until February 21st, 2024, are being fitted into new vehicles.
You can identify a Generation 2 Smart Tachograph in the following way:
- VDO DTCO 4.1 has a small Bluetooth icon on the top right-hand side of the display:
- Stoneridge SE5000 smart 2 tachograph shows Smart 2 above the SE5000 name:
To use your current download devices to download the Generation 2 Smart Tachographs, you may need to make some updates to them as listed below.
Tachosys download devices.
In short, you will be asked when plugging your Digivu into DigiConnect or a Digipostpro to carry out a firmware upgrade. Say yes and your device will be updated automatically. For full details click here
DLK Pro download device
DLK Pro S will have to be updated to download the new DTCO 4.1 tachograph. This can be done by downloading software available via the VDO portal here
Older DLK Pro, that don’t include the S at the end of the name and have not yet been updated to download the DTCO 4.0 tachograph, (the first Smart Tachograph) will need:
- a DLK pro licence card smart TCO ready available here
- Once the licence has been applied, you need to update using the software on the VDO portal in order to be able to download the DTCO 4.1 tachograph. The software can be found here
If your DLK Pro has already been updated with the licence and can download DTCO 4.0 tachographs you will need only need to update the device using the software here
VDO will be releasing a new device in Q3 that will automatically be compatible with the new DTCO 4.1 tachograph.
Lisle Devices
You will need to check the serial number of your device to see if it can be updated. Full details can be found here
