IMI Level 2/3 Award in Preparing Heavy Electric/Hybrid Vehicles for Repair (including HGV, Bus and Coach)
This is an IMI Level 2/3 nationally recognised 2-day qualification
The content of this qualification has been designed to give the learners the knowledge and skills required to work safely on Electric/Hybrid heavy goods vehicles whilst carrying out diagnostic, testing and repair activities. This may include vehicles that may have or had damage to their high energy/electrical system covering IMI modules 603/4181/6 and 603/4182/8.
It contains two mandatory units EV2.2 and EV3, using pre-course work, theory and practical learning in a specialist classroom and workshop environment from one of our regional training centres.

Who Should Attend
Learners will have an interest in gaining the knowledge to work safely when preparing for repairs on heavy electric/hybrid vehicles' high energy systems.
Designed for technical staff encountering heavy electric/hybrid vehicles within an operational environment, this course contains the knowledge and skills required to work safely around a vehicle that may have incurred damage to its high energy/electrical system.
This award offers an introduction to this specialised industry sector which, in addition to complimenting their current industry qualifications and experience, will enable them to continue to work safely within their role. These roles can include but are not exclusive to:
- Vehicle maintenance and repair technicians.
- Vehicle damage repair technicians
Learners interested in taking this course MUST possess appropriate heavy vehicle maintenance and repair knowledge and skills at Level 3 or equivalent.

Course Content
- Working safely on electric/hybrid vehicle system components and operation
- Hazards surrounding electric/hybrid vehicles
- How to reduce the risks to yourself and others when working on electric/hybrid heavy vehicles
- Safely preparing the vehicle when carrying routine maintenance (NOT high voltage components or systems)
- Completing the IMI online exam
- Preparing the vehicle for shut down and reinitialising on high voltage energy system
- Removal and replacement of high voltage component part in a highly participative practical exercise
- Demonstrating all aspects of safety on and around the high voltage system
- Leaving with knowledge and confidence to work on heavy vehicle high voltage system
Course Duration
- Initial pre-attendance reading prior to 2-day onsite attendance for instruction, practical learning and assessment.
- Maximum 6 learners per course.
- Public course.
Assessment
Online Multiple-Choice knowledge test – 30 questions/60 minutes and 90-minute practical assessment
